When angry voices drown
the music of the spheres,
and children face a world
that’s far beyond their years,
above the darkest sky
the full horizons lie
with all the reasons
why you must believe in spring.
You must believe in love
and trust it’s on its way,
just as the sleeping rose
awaits the kiss of May.
So, in a world of snow,
of things that come and go,
where what you think you know
you can’t be certain of,
you must believe in spring,
and love.
From You Must Believe in Spring, by Jacques Demy and Michel Legrand
please tell me you took that picture maybe a year ago. because at my house tonight it’s something like 20 below zero, and i will have to run out with blankets if there are any wee crocus daring to bare their purple skins……
Allow me to reassure you, my lovely: this is indeed a photo from another year. But just look at how crocuses prevail, despite cold and snow and bitter circumstance – a sturdy lesson from the smallest of things. xoxo
“You must believe in love and trust it’s on its way,” I love this line. It’s something that I needed to hear 🙂
I am celebrating this truth with you, Marjorie; peace to your good heart. Wishing you a thousand beautiful iterations of love! xoxo
Amy, I love these words: “So, in a world of snow…you must believe in spring.”
Spring… she never disappoints and comes bearing gifts. Love your sweet picture.
xxoo
I love them, too, Ellen. I’ll find myself humming You Must Believe in Spring each year around this time, when spring seems far away. xoxo
Just the reminder I need today. Under all that snow, crocuses await their moment. xo
Oh, yes, dear K. I always find our shortest month painfully long. But soon, sweet crocus faces… Much love to you~ xo
The seeds have been planted . . . physically and spiritually:). Love you, friend.
Know what’s as miraculous as spring? The blossoming of a fine new friendship. Love you, my beautiful friend! ❤ xoxo
Lovely! Beautiful poetry, and hopefully, my crocus are also slumbering beneath the snow, ready to wake up soon!
