I must return the gift

Even a wounded world is feeding us. Even a wounded world holds us,
giving us moments of wonder and joy. I choose joy over despair,
not because I have my head in the sand,
but because joy is what the earth gives me daily,
and I must return the gift.

~Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass

the earth heals us

Earth Day 2020

A native bee visits a stem of prairie blazing star
in the native plant garden my husband and I created
as an oasis for monarch butterflies and other pollinators.

As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.

~Robin Wall Kimmerer

miracles

Miracles, in the sense of phenomena we cannot explain,
surround us on every hand:
life itself is the miracle of miracles.

~George Bernard Shaw, (1856 – 1950)

understand how to be small

We must remain as close to the flowers, the grass, and the butterflies
as the child is who is not yet so much taller than they are.
We adults, on the other hand, have outgrown them
and have to lower ourselves to stoop down to them. . . .
Whoever would partake of all good things
must understand how to be small at times.

~Friedrich Nietzsche, (1844 – 1900)
