you go at the pace of the water

0216_you go at the pace of the water

There is no rushing a river.
When you go there,
you go at the pace of the water
and that pace ties you into a flow
that is older than life on this planet.
Acceptance of that pace, even for a day,
changes us, reminds us of other rhythms
beyond the sound of our own heartbeats.

  1. Amy, thank you for this blessing. My husband is under Hospice care and these words so spoke to me. I always look forward to your posts. Just don’t usually respond, so wanted to let you know i appreciate them.

    • Oh, my friend, your words today have touched me profoundly… I want you to know my love and prayers are with you and your dear husband. Bless you both. xoxox

  2. Very timely post today. I practice Qi Gong on line and today we were doing an exercise for the kidneys in which we practiced moving like water, imagining we were water, creating a little wave through the spine, moving with no tension or tightness. We also practiced another move, called moving like a river, another exercise for the spine, a relaxed motion, going with the flow. Our teacher even had on a t-shirt with the word River on it. Synchronicity! Love your web site, especially what you say in your “about me” section, as I very much relate, and appreciate your calming, beautiful photographs. Thank you Amy.

    • Jan, thank you so much for this lovely message. I love knowing today’s post appeared at just the right moment to underscore the river theme in your practice. I am grateful for your kind remarks about this blog. I invest a good deal of thought and time in the posts I share, and it’s a gift to me today to hear you’ve been enjoying them. All my best wishes to you~ xoxo

  3. Thank you, once again, for sharing such a timely poem. As they say,”thanks, I needed that”. I sent it along to my son — you provided a thread of connection and conversation for us. Blessings

    • Wendy, I’m so happy this post resonated and am honored to hear you sent it along to your son! It was so kind of you to let me know. Thank you! xoxo

    • I can only imagine how busy you are just now, Ellen, as you begin the process of settling in. I’m so glad to know these lovely words have brought you a little of nature’s unhurried wisdom. Thinking of you and sending much love~ xo

  4. This morning I walked along the river with Maude, a soft quiet day; leaves rustling underfoot, a few sprinkles of rain, the peaceful river. And tonight I read these lines and was grateful for our connection and all the ways we remind each other of what matters.

    • I, too, am grateful for our connection, dearest Katrina. You’ve been on my mind and in my heart as I’ve ambled along riverbanks and quiet woodland paths… Sending you so much love~ xoxo
