a pattern of loveliness and mystery

On foggy mornings, Charlotte’s web was truly a thing of beauty. This morning each thin strand was decorated with dozens of tiny beads of water. The web glistened in the light and made a pattern of loveliness and mystery, like a delicate veil.

  1. so beyond perfect. and you just happened upon this web of dew-dropped magic? oh my. what a blessed moment that must have been. and a line from one of my favorites. what a perfect pairing…..

    • E. B. White is also one of my most treasured writers. And yes, I just happened upon this bit of gorgeousness in our side garden yesterday morning. The tiny web was the most delicate creation imaginable; strung horizontally between leaves of coreopsis, black-eyed susan, and The Fairy, (my white floribunda rose), it artfully ignored the laws of gravity. Each strand shimmered with a thousand crystal droplets, simply ethereal.

    • Thank you, Sara! I adore Charlotte’s Web, a book I read and re-read as a child. So glad to hear your daughter is absorbing it right now!

    • Thank you, Ellen! Charlotte’s Web ranks among my favorite books of all time. I love that you read it to your darling first graders at the close of the school year. Just imagine the number of young lives you impacted with the beauty and wisdom contained within its pages… xoxo
